A Must-See Movie “Slumdog Millionaire”

As I’ve watched the movie entitled “Slumdog Millionaire” which talked about the story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year old orphan from the slums of Mumbal, who experienced the biggest day of his life when he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million Rupees on India’s “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” But when the show breaks for the night the police arrest him on suspicion of cheating. How could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother Salim grew up, their adventures together on the road of vicious encounters with local gangs, and Latika, the girl he loved and lost but destiny intervene for them to be together again. Written by Fox Searchlight Pictures.

“Slumdog Millionaire” was indeed a great show. I’ve learned great lessons in life that I tend to neglect. Success in life cannot be measured on the place where one lives or the people you get acquainted with. Life provides answers to our queries in life, it aids our confusion but the problem lies on how to realize these things that life offers to us. It even provides us many options on how we live our lives, we could play with life, cheat with it, go with the flow or we are just too lucky to have the answers in life that we can’t comprehend. Or perhaps, our destiny is written in our palms or in God’s hand.

As for Jamal’s life, his destiny is written, the answers were on the choices provided. It is up to him to make the right choices and to have faith in himself that his past won’t be a hindrance to his success. No matter what kind of life you live as long as you have the determination to change your life and believe in your capacity then you’ll surely succeed. In life we are destined to fail and succeed. But what’s the biggest prize of all? Is it the amount of money we have, our success, fame, power or the lessons we learned and value in life? Life is full of mystery, may be at this very moment you are nobody but the next morning you become somebody. Everything happens for a reason, but we need to find out those reasons and lessons that life offers to us. Our destiny is written in God’s hand. We just have to have faith for beyond the darkness, God gives us light, beyond our nightmares, he gives us dreams and beyond our tears he gives us comfort. The path he laid for us is just beyond the corner even if we failed and our expectations are not reached, we just have to put our trust and faith in God alone.

Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life but by the obstacles which one has overcome.
    ~Just my 2 cents ;)

  3. I saw this film with my wife recently and we were moved to tears. It was incredible!

There are many lessons in it. One major lesson is “never to judge a book by its cover.” Everyone thought that “slumdogs” knew nothing. What we learned is that everyone has a strong set of unique experiences that teach so much.

And often, in the lower socio-economic rungs of society, more is being learned in “the school of hard knocks” than is being learned in the ivory halls of the sheltered life of money and ease.
